Crowdfunding Platform Afrikstart Wins 2015 Africa TechPitch Competition

Afrikstart, the pioneer crowdfunding platform to fund, train, and mentor African entrepreneurs is the winner of the Africa TechPitch organised in London, on 29th April 2015.

Africa TechPitch showcased high-impact and high-potential African-focused tech startups bringing disruptive and innovative solutions to cater the African market.

The Africa TechPitch event was organised by the Africa Technology Business Network and hosted by the law firm Addleshaw Goddard. Founded by Eunice Ball, a tech entrepreneur, the Africa Technology Business Network gathers a community of entrepreneurs and innovators who are interested to unlock and to tap into the opportunities in Africa.

Four other startups pitched at the Africa TechPitch, alongside Afrikstart:

SafeMotos: An Uber-like app making Rwandan motorcycle taxis safer and more convenient

VoguePay: an online payment processor platform which facilitates transactions and payments in Africa and worldwide

InveswellAfrica: a matchmaker helping businesses in Sub-Saharan Africa to attract funding from institutional investors

Yakkity: a mobile application that rewards consumers with exclusive deals for using their social influence to advocate for brands

Each tech startup delivered a five-minute presentation to five expert judges and to a crowded audience. Afrikstart was the winner of the pitch competition. InvestwellAfrica was the runner up.

Prizes of the Africa TechPitch
• Half-day workshop with Biopark Technology development team to advise Afrikstart on the website design and user Experience
• PR consultancy session with A. Annobil
• Free consultation with law firm Addleshaw Goddard on legal, structure and funding options as well as a promotional article in Addleshaw Goddard e-bulletin
• A homepage banner on for one month for the winning pitch, and a feature on for the winner and the runner-up

Afrikstart strives to empower more Africans to start, run, and grow businesses that will uplift Africa economically, create more jobs, and alleviate poverty.
